Does the paw look swollen, like it's broken?
If not, wipe it off with some etoh, and maybe you can see what the problem is.

it does look a little swollen, yeah - tho it may just be the way he's holding it.

if he'd broken it i dont really see why it would have blood on it, unless the bone came thru the skin, which i cant see.

i cleaned it up and cant really see any noticable damage, he hasnt damaged or pulled out one of his claws from what i can see. poor little fellow

Maybe he steped on something like a splinter? I wouldn't worry about it unless it looks infected.
Hope he's ok. Rats are awesome.

If you have any antibiotic ointment, I'd put a little of that on it. Although, alcohol wipe should do the trick just fine. :veterinarian:

yea, i'm hoping he's just trodden on something, i've cleaned his cage out and used special cage cleaner to keep risk of infection down till tuesday.

As a disclaimer, I'm not really a veterinarian. :)

I wouldn't use those antibiotics, not if it's just a local injury. If it gets worse in the next few days, or looks really infected, then I would add a little.
Systemic antibiotics aren't a good idea if he's not sick.

Of course, a real vet's advice is much better than mine...

Just wipe it with alcohol, and let it be. That's what I'd do.

which is what i've done. I think he'll be alright. If he were a wild rat he'd have to like it or lump it anyway.

I'm waiting on him hand a foot and carrying him about my room where he wants to go. I do spoil him so.
