[Quake4] Intermittent Game Freeze

I have recently started playing Q4 again and have found that if my game isn’t displaying a character often that once it does appear on screen again there is a good change that it will lock-up for a second or two.

It doesn’t happen every time, and I don’t have this issue with other fps. I also am not experiencing packet loss. I tried uninstalling my old video driver (GeForce 6000 256mb) and installing the latest from nVidia, and that did not fix the issue either. I cannot remember having this happen when I played the game a few months ago, and since then I have updated to 1.2, and Q4max .74b, and RA beta3. I notice it the most in RA3, and Q4Max games (though don’t play q4base very often).

Any suggestions? Would I need to supply more info about the problem(logs or something)? If so where can I get it from, as I’m not very familiar with the game, and engine.

Sounds like your system is placing the data in the swap file and having to read it back off the disk when you next encounter the character.

How much RAM do you have, and what is your swap file size set to?

Is swapfile = windows virtual memory? if so same size
