X-Men Standing for the Last time or something.

I actually though this was great. Amazing effects and just pure fun.

actually small detail but Grave of the Fireflies was don't by Miyazaki, but by his studio IIRC.

i haven't seen howl's moving castle yet, but i'd like to.

Very enjoyable. Robert Downey Jr. suits the loser role he's playing here. The ending scene in the hospital is class.

Nne follow comic book continuity really but then again, none of them have really done such a famous arc as the dark phoenix saga.

Having said that, the second was probably the best comic book movie there has been to date, in my oppinion. Though it strayed from the story it had the characterizations down pat.

I was like 'meh' the first time i watched it, even turned it off near the end because i lost all interest. But then i read some Jackal post praising the thing, so i figured i must have missed something wonderful. I watched it again a month or so ago, but dude, i don't get what you see in it.

It's just another mindless action flick with a predictable story and slick looking fight scenes...

this movie screams 'full metal jacket gulf war-style' from the first scene, only with no actual engagement with the enemy. kind of interesting take on soldiers being trained for a no-longer-existent kind of warfare, with the bombs doing all the work instead

Silent Hill 8/10.
im not sure why so many people are slagging it, i thought it was great. the editing is a bit clunky at times (most noticable due to the music cuts) and christophers story is slapped on like a bandaid (although it does have its significance) but apart from that i loved every minute of it.
oh and PH shouldve had a 'final' scene where his role was fleshed out a bit more. he just 'disappears' from the movie alltogether

I really like Primer, you need to watch it at least twice before you can even begin to try and work out what's going on.

I just watched a Brazilian film called Carandiru, which used to be a massively overpopulated prison in Brazil. I knew nothing of the history and really enjoyed the film. Wonderfully acted.

Corpse Bride - 8/10

Tim Burton is always great. Not as good as Nightmare Before Christmas, but still quality.

I Robot 4/10

Watched this with a robot-loving friend of mine, who wanted me to see the robots interact with humans. Kept himself and me busy with theorizing about some details in the film while Will Smith blew shit up... did the humans program the robots to make sounds when they move, look at how that robot takes care of that old lady, would the robot rules really work, stuff like that.

I liked it the way i liked Minority Report - some great ideas about technology and society in the future, but a very thin story line and far too much bullshit.

Silent Hill - 7/10

The story was a pos.
except for the crappy finale, the atmosphere was awesome as hell. i had hoped for a lot more stuff like the corpse in the toilet, though.
i felt like there was to much action in the flic - most of the creepy stuff was used in action-like sequences. bad move if you ask me ~ if they had made this stuff look more normal, as it does in the game, the effect would have been better, i think.

and sean beans part was totally unnecessairy.

I'm making a stand right here, right now. When a movie breaches the 2 hour mark it officially lands itself in "too fucking long" territory. Part of making a successful movie is making it concise. I'm so fucking sick of thie 3+ hour long movie trend.

Even ignoring all the classics, what about The Matrix, The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption, Jurassic Park, the Fellowship of the Ring, etc? I think it's perfectly possible to make an excellent 2-hour-plus movie, it just hasn't been happening lately because everyone thought the LOTR trilogy meant they could skip the editing process.
