Loved it, great animation and I loved the steam power concept - lead to some rather ingeneous inventions that owned Steamboy.

Also, I think I enjoyed it more than Spirited Away and Grave of the Fireflys (the only other films I've seen by him).

10/10
ok, watched howl's moving castle 7/10, good animation, decent story but i think geared for a slightly younger audience.

spirited away, 7/10 good animation, decent story, geared for younger audience.

grave of the firefly's 8/10. non-animated. story about rural japan and the life/attitudes of it's citizens during WWII. good cinema, great acting overall but the story seemed a tad thin in places. a great flick to watch with the chicks, major tear jerk action. watch em bawl their eyes out.

fyi, all three are japanese dubbed over.

An Inconvenient Truth - 9/10

Its a good view on global warming and the impact of industry and pollution on the environment. I give Al Gore major kudos for this film.

I liked it the way i liked Minority Report - some great ideas about technology and society in the future, but a very thin story line and far too much bullshit.
Agree'd.
Its story was childish for me.
In fast this movie seems to flatter existing p.o.w.e.r in essence.

I just hope someday near future smart robots will suddenly go out of control like this movie and punish greedy species like politicians and noone can stop them.

Saw the Omen last night (I have a friend who manages the theatre so I get in for free and he can put on the movie himself so we can see private screenings before the movie comes out). I haven't seen the original in about a year, and when I saw it it was on TV. Regardless, the parts I remember played out excatly as they do in the new one. Refreshing that there's no shitty Hollywood twist on a classic. They didn't fuck it up.

Solid horror movie

The Break-up 7.5/10

Pretty good...I think it was too realistic for the critics, though (no Hollywood ending)...and the trailer is not the best representation of what the movie is about either...I hate that!

Sympathy for Lady Vengeance - 6/10

It had some interesting ideas and some artistic/innovative direction (similar to many effects seen in C.R.A.Z.Y.), but it falls apart with a "climax" that is an expression of typical Japanese fetishism -- the overly elaborate, way-too-lengthy plotting of a man's murder. A mixed bag, really. I've never seen anything else quite like it, so I don't have much of a frame of reference. It was interesting enough, but it didn't spark in me any particular desire to see the previous two films by the same director (which comprise, along with this one, a thematic trilogy -- the theme being revenge, of course).

Buckaroo Bonzai: Across The 8th Dimension

i could only stand about an hour of it. cult favorite for some, complete trash to me. maybe back in the early 80's i might have stomached the entire film.

"House of Wax" on cable

3/10

Shitty CG, especially the end.

Not to mention Paris Hilton is a horrible actress.

Azumi 2 5/10

The orginal had some very innovative camera work and a pretty rocking storyline, but there was none of that in part 2... dissapointing.

I think Paris Hilton's (un)intentional comedy parts were what saved this movie from being horrible.

BLASPHEMER! :icon33:

Watched Minority Report again last night as an assignment. Really didn't pick up anything different that the first viewing, except for some foreshadowing in parts.
I think Spielberg's an awesome director, but this film was just too much of a mainstream entertainment movie.

Nathan Fillion should take over as Indiana Jones. He's perfect for the part.
(Well, at least he would be better than Harrison Ford in a wheelchair because he's too fucking old to walk.)

Revolver : 8.5/10

Was a great movie, but it doesn't get 9.5/10 because closer to the end it gets really obscure and requires a lot of thinking, which alienates 90% of the viewers. The ending could have been left a bit less open-ended.

But the fact she died messily made up for the rest of the movie being shit.

please god let it not be a king kong style effort. shame indy will be too old for more nazis

speaking of which...

king kong - 6/10

moderately entertaining, and very much like the spielberg of his lighter popcorn efforts. as good a director as jackson is, i doubt he has the range of spielberg, unless he pulls some epic war movie or serious drama out of the hat. heavenly creatures was probably as serious a movie as jackson will ever make

The Omen (remake) - 7/10

not as bad as expected. it's pretty boring early on but gains some tension after a while.

The Island - 7/10

Even though I heard bad things, i got it anyways for free with a few DVD's i bought (Which cant be bad).

I was quite surprised. A good flick, a bit random, but good none the less. The biggest problem i had was ObiWan trying to put on an American accent. Its not that it was bad, just, well, hes not American :p That and i just thought "Where is your beard obiwan :(" the whole way through.

Not as bad as i thought it would be, a good watch.
