It's a direct drive from the cam shaft i think, there is no belt from the crank.

I did not but good try.

And when I was 19 I had a 77 Caprice with a beautiful 350 in it. Amazing car. Of course it drove from gas station to gas station, but unlike you, I had a job so I could afford it.
