So... I purchased this widescreen monitor and set up Q3 to play in widescreen mode by tweaking the r_customheight and width values and then setting r_mode to -1.
Works great.... At least until the map cycles on the server at which point, within a couple more minutes of play, the game just freezes solid. The only way I can get out is to "end task" the game after a ctrl-alt-del. This lockup occurs after every second map is loaded, without fail, never on just the first map to be played. Occasionally the game will freeze even before the next map loads, it just hangs at the second maps screen shot.
The widescreen is the only thing I have changed in the configuration.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Hi,
Never tried using r_customheight and width so not really sure.. things I can think of to look at .... (I know they' re obvious to some)
Do you have the latest drivers for your graphics card and are you running the latest point release and patch for Q3. Quake 3 is on Point Release 1.32 and is patched to Point Release 1.32c.

Yes, that is the obvious stuff, and this is a brand new installation of windows (within the last week) with the most recent drivers of everything from the motherboard, to the sound card, to the video card... etc.
The game works fine until I use the custom display settings. I thought that someone else might have some experience using widescreen displays with q3 here. I've seen this issue mentioned very sporadically in other forums.
