The weird/experimental map thread

Post by surgeon62 »

I was looking at an old map I did as one of my "real" first maps and something occurred to me. In this map, I did some really weird things with water just experimenting with the editor. I couldn't do anything worthwhile with the concept, but maybe a more capable mapper could.

I am willing to bet that a lot of you have junk maps where you have done some strange or unique things with the editor. Although these ideas didn't work in a map for you, they might be just the thing another mapper is looking for in his/her map.

Maybe this is just one too many beers talking but I will go ahead and put my old map out there to start this up. The map is crap, but you will see what I mean about doing weird things with water.

How about the rest of you guys. The rest of us could potentially benefit from one of your abandoned ideas however embarassing it might be to put it out there.

It would be great if you and everyone else adding content to this thread could post a 640x screenshot to show off what they did. That way it would be easier for the rest of us to comment, and/or see if the effect could be nice to add to our maps.

Heheh, this map has that strange box map feeling to it of being a complete layout space wise but still basic in construction. Quite nostalgic.

The idea is good - Though I think to expand it to a proper idea it would be a waste not to create a new kind of liquid specifically for the purpose. Some shimmering purple goop or something.

There's a level - One of the swarmdm ones, which uses water columns as a positive gameplay effect - even in 1v1 CPMA. I'll dig out the level and cap a video if I can.

Good Point AEon. I don't know if I would call this "showing off" because the map is a junk map, but these shots all show you looking from an area with no water into an area filled with water. In some other places, the water is invisible.

Hey! Any takers on this? I don't think we're looking for anything fancy, just weird or unusual. I have watched the LEM forum for a long time and I know that some of us have certain... influences (cough) we use for mapping. Surely, we have produced some non-mainstream ideas as a result.

Here is a chance to put them out there!

Out.
