File name changes...

Post by Canis »

Hey tech dudes. My PC at work wont show the name change of a file if you rename it, until you right click and choose refresh from the contextual menu, or somehow refresh the view by other means. I'd liek for it to show the name of the renamed files immediately. Is this a known problem?

Same thing happens if I copy and paste a file, or drag it from one folder to an open folder. The open folder will not show the new file until the folder has been manually refreshed.

How much RAM do you have and what's your PF (PageFile) usage?

There's no extra indexing software on the thing.

I've got 1GB RAM and the page file system is set to automatic. I havent checked the usage in a while, but previous checks didnt show anything out of the ordinary.

Maybe you need to clear out your temporary files folder.

all local files? I ask because this (along with other symptoms) is a known problem between certain NT servers and XP.

Yeah, its all the files on my hard drive, and all folders, regardless of whether I made them or some application made them.

Try this little piece of mad plagiarized advice:
You can make Windows Explorer constantly refresh and update its files and folder views. Go through the Registry through RegEdit, and navigate through the left-hand pane until you get to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / System / CurrentControlSet / control / Update item. In the right-hand pane, click on UpdateMode and select Modify. In the Edit window, change 01 to 00. Exit everything and reboot for this to take effect.
