I managed to stay underwater for the whole 30-40 minute dive, but by the end of it my eye was burning like fire.

I got in the boat and couldn't close or open my eye. I had to just hold the lid away from my eyeball.

Went to the hospital, they said I had conjunctivitis from the stuff (wasn't the first case they'd had either), and gave me some steroid eye-drops which cleared it right up.

Lesson: hypo-allergenic still doesn't mean "safe to be near eyes."

I thought it was strange though, because the stuff is made to put on the inside of goggles. Oh well, whattyagonnado...
why not just spit in the mask?
ive done this for years and never had a mask fog up on me

Oh believe me - that's all I'll do from now on. I'd never used any kind of defoggers before either, until we were diving on vacation, which is when this happened.

I just used it because we had it, but a little spit has always worked fine for me before - you won't catch me using the stuff again. :)
