Geforce 6600GT = no widescreen ?

Post by AmIdYfReAk »

i set out today to get a 6600 for my media center, and they ended up upgrading me to a 6600GT instead..So i poped this in to replace my old 9800 PRO on my main computer..

Getting ready to play a few rounds, i noticed that all of the widescreen resolutions are gone, i used play Bf2, and Hl2 at 1280X720 before, but now there is just standard 4:3 resolutions.

Now all i have to choose from between both apps and windows are the usuall, 800X600, 1024X768, 1152X864, 1280X1024, 1600X1200, and then the native res of my screen 1920X1200..

i have the latest Nvidia drivers installed ( 91.31 ) and i have reinstalled the driver for the monitor, and also have tryed removing the driver and leaving it at PnPmonitor, still nill...

can you think of anything before i go insane?

ohh, the monitor is a dell 2405FPW btw :)

Odd. My 9800 Pro just died for the purposes of Quake playing and I just bought a 6600GT. I have a 19" widescreen [Acer] and it works fine. I have it set to 1280X720 right now, but there are many different resolution settings.

And, I just used the drivers provided on the CD. Haven't had time to check the web to get the updates.

is that your monitor's native resolution?

as i said, it would do my TFT's native ( 1920X1200 ) that is 16:10 but it wont do anything lower..

I can't remember what the native res was as I changed it immediatley, but I have 12 resolutions available to me ranging from 800x600 to 1440x900.

Hummm, 1140X900 would be the native res :)

so there has to be a diffrence between our setups..

Really. I haven't quite kept up-to-date on this stuff. I find 1440x900 a bit small for my liking.

Yours goes to 1920x1200?? That's quite a lot higher than mine will go.

mine is also a 24" Wide, not a 19" :)

i have been able to tell Nvidia's drivers NOT to Hide the resolutions, but that also shows the ones that the monitor dosent support..

i am running out of things to try here :(

I'm sure you've properly uninstalle all of the ATI drivers before you installed the Nvidia driver. It sound to me like you've got some kind of driver conflict.

Sounds like nvidia didn't register the resolutions you want... I take monitor driver is installed? You could possibly reg hack those extra resolutions in there, but there's no guarantee all the games would recognize it still etc.

Did you try refreshforce and put them in maually?

there is the option of putting them in manually in the Nvidia Pannel, but i dont know all of them and etc, so it would be a little hard :)

and the Monitor's driver is installed Via windows update and manually ( from dell ) still nothing..

Gramps: yea man, i used ATi's utility that kills EVERYTHING to do with there product ( or so it says ), i am not experancing the usuall things that come with the Ati Vs NVidia Driver conflict ( Slow performance, Video error's/crashes, etc )

On a side note, i also enabled the HDTV resolutions in the Nvidia pannel, i'm going to reboot to see if that will get some of them back, who knows? it might just work :tard:

I'm going to suggest the "Your Uninstaller' program again, sorry. But this proggy kills everything, registry entries and all. I'd try that and then reinstall the Nvidia drivers.

I don't have this option, is it cause I only have a Vanta? Or do I just need newer graphics card drivers?

Also, does this make the resolutions available in other applications or is it just a desktop thing?

:olo: I don't understand. Sorry, I just don't understand. What thing? What has nothing to do with it? (I was just laughing it off.)

You're talking about using an ancient Vanta card so I'm not surprised at all that you don't see those options. Thats what he's talking about. Btw, its years past time for an upgrade.
