Multihoming a residential connection

Post by Foo »

Anyone have much experience in multihoming connections? I'm starting to look at it because upload rates in the UK are absolutely appalling, and the only effective way to get more upload speed is to run several connections.

I remember hearing of a small linux build, it might have been for the WRT54g router or mebbe just an old PC, that would let you join 2 connections as one.

My questions be:
* Do you need ISP support to do this, or can you make 2 disparate connections join into a transparent single connection?
* Will it truly act as a single connection, in that torrent uploads would be able to use the upload bandwidth of both connections, or can it only be used as a failover mechanism if one line fails?

Most of the time multihome connections only work as failover. I don't kow of any non-enterprise class routers that do load balancing across two WAN connections well.
