I wish I had a wide angle instead of the 50 prime. I was playing with DOF that day, so I was looking for flat surfaces that would fit inside a narrow plane with something in the background to compliment the subject. A lot of people complain about being distracted by the background, but those are probably people who take pictures of flowers.

The 2nd one was some crazy (literally) homeless dude who was complaining about no one standing up for his rights (to loaf or get medical help). I burned the words 'not equal' on the sign next to him because of that

20-24mm i think is the prime focal length personally. i always liked putting myself ridiculously close to situations like that. oddly enough, it's the easiest way to be objective...if that makes sense. 50mm works here though.

the second photo is far too literal, whereas the first is quite evocative and really gives a sense of the mainstream perception of the israeli/palestinian 'conflict' in the US. the juxtaposition of periphery is so matter of fact.

I was in the real Notre Dame (not the fake one) last week with my rd1 and for some reason, i didn't take any pics

Anyways, here's two more I liked.

This first one bugs me only because you can't tell the girl in the foreground was one of the 3 people of 100 there who supported Israel. They thought the rally was too pro-violence (ironically), pro-syria and anti-israel. The look of contempt on the face of the lady holding the sign, the distance between them and the hand on the girls hip almost makes not knowing her association irrelevant.

I guess I just liked this one

Actually, I think the foreground girl in the first was full of shit. She and the guy who I assumed was her husband were Jewish converts and I think her support of Israel was misplaced. I think she equates Judaism with Zionism or being Israeli when they're all separate concepts
