Quake III Team arena question

I have Quake III Team Arena and I want to know if the tweaks and variables from Quake III Arena work with Team Arena

Thanks, but I have another problem when I try to install Team arena it says: "Quake III: Team Arena requiers a valid install of Quake III: Arena", I purchased Team Arena but Quake III is from a friend.
Is there anything I could do to make it work?
