That would be the rumblings of "Gears Of War", the first real decent use of UE3. Not only is the game visually stunning, its also boasting a lot of really cool gameplay.

Its a third person run and gun style game, however, its adding a lot of little kicks to the game such as blind fire behind cover. I suggest you take a peak at some of the videos of this baby in action, if anything, you will impressed by the shear ammount of gore that just comes from everywhere (I mean dude, the main gun of yours has a CHAINSAW on the end of it, heh).

oh yeah, hoorah for gore. Without gore a game cannot be cool (or mature!)

For a moment I thought that was UT2007 because of CliffyB's name, but they're doing GoW as well ofcuz :icon32:

All the footage I've seen has been repetitive and boring. Crouch behind boxes, aim, shoot, kill baddie, roll to next set of boxes, aim, shoot, etc.

That's supposed to be Q3? Although Q3 isn't top priority for me in gaming, it's a lot more tactical than that.

Yeah, but to the untrained eye, your just running around, shooting stuff, grabbing stuff, then shooting stuff.

In other words, to anybody else, its just the same boring as fuck shit, but to us, its fun, and doesn't get old.

even before people played it, everyone was talking about this being the end all game...so have people played it yet? or is there still no legitimacy in their praises.

People have played it, the SP game and the MP game.

The verdict "thus far" is that the single player game is varried and paced enough so that its gonna keep you entertained, its not all shoot, duck, repeat.

The MP looks like something will, at last, knock Halo 2 off the top of the gaming boards. Its supposed to employ the same tactics as the single player game, there are a few MP movies out now. One thing I do like is the way if you time a reload just right combined with firing, you can get a few extra damage shots in, but if you mess it up, your gun will jam. Little touches like that, while not realistic, add to the fun a hell of a lot it looks.

I haven't played it myself unfortunatly, but its one of those games I wish I could :(

I was watching some videos and I think the gore is too retarded. The realism of the effect itself is amazing but they overuse it. Its hard to believe that every time a bullet hits you a pint of blood a flesh is blown away yet you're perfectly fine and your body armor is unpenetrated.

there is no such thing as overused gore...
a defining attribute of a government is that it has a monopoly on the legitimate exercise of violence...

Yeah but in MK you were actually getting hit in the face. It just seems really weird seeing gallons of blood coming out of a heavily armored guy who doesn't even flinch.

Watching that just reminds me of that really annoying thing where you zoom in and suddenly your framerate goes to shit and its a lottery as to whether you hit anything.

Which is pretty much what would happen on my PC if it ran at all. Oh well.

From what I've seen it looks nice but its basically just another shooter. Let's face it, any gameplay "innovations" are likely to be minimal.

That's a fuck of alot better than hiding behind crates and blindly firing at enemies. I despise that kind of gameplay.
