This started a couple of months ago. Q3 started printing this in the console (and on screen) maybe a couple of times a minute:
"name": "monSter" default: "UnnamedPlayer"
monSter is my ingame name. I've tried deleting q3config.cfg both in baseq3 and relevant mod dirs, and tried both quake3.exe 1.32 and 1.32c. Punkbuster is disabled. And my autoexec.cfg files don't contain anything weird.
I haven't bothered trying to reinstall yet, but this problem is so weird that I don't trust it to go away anyway. It happens when I play vanilla q3 too, so it's not related to my mod coding stuff.
Has anyone else seen this?
q3 spams my console
Does it continue to do it when you let go of all keys and the mouse?
Leave it untouched for 20 seconds and tell us if the message still shows at the top of the screen with the console closed, or if it eventually scrolls off the screen and dissapears.
That message SHOULD appear whenever you enter the command \name without a new name after it. If you have a key or all keys double-bound to \name, it could cause this.

It seems to happen even when I let go of all keys and the mouse, but I haven't double checked this. There's about a minute between each time it happens. Don't know if the interval varies or not, haven't timed it.Foo wrote:Does it continue to do it when you let go of all keys and the mouse?

It also happens at the main menu, before even loading a map.
I have no keys bound to /name now, I deleted q3config to be sure, and verified with /bindlist. I have /name "xxx" binds in autoexec.cfg, but they are commented out, and removing autoexec.cfg didn't help either.
It doesn't seem to depend on the player name either, since it happens with "UnnamedPlayer" too.
It's damn annoying, because the sound makes me look up to read it, like it was a regular chat message.
But I guess it could be related to some custom file in the baseq3 dir, since that's the only thing left if it's not in the configuration files.

It's been reported several times already on the xfire forum. here'sone thread. The solution is to disable a setting in xfire:
Options->Privacy->Track kill/death stats for display on profile.
Of course, you lose some of the stats. But they don't seem to work yet anyway.
