as for the guitar thing, I'm with the rest, take lessons. at least long enough to make sure your hand positions are solid. lot better to start off with good habits.

That's how I was. I'm pretty much completely self-taught, taught myself a lot from books and stuff too, but I'd still strongly recommend getting lessons.
