Solid build quality just isn't a feature that will draw much attention.

And while a car with poor build quality is pretty much unsellable in Europe, it is a cost factor that isn't very rewarding for car manufacturers in America.

Car development in Europe:

"We're going to build a new car! Should we invest in build quality or a snazzy new feature like LCD screens in the glove compartment?"
"Build quality, because nobody buys a car that feels crappy."

Car development in the US:

"We're going to build a new car! Should we invest in build quality or a snazzy new feature like LCD screens in the glove compartment?"
"LCD screens are kicking rad, gangstas don't even know what build quality is."

Another thing that has puzzled me in the past:

In the 50s, 60s and even the 70s American cars had their own style.

And then, suddenly, late 80s, early 90s, they started to model their cars after JAPANESE cars! The Japanese, who rip all their designs off of European cars! Only very, very badly!

The Mustang is a very good example. (The latest model excluded)

Did American car manufacturers actually think people bought Japanese cars because they looked better???
"I have thought about this before, and I think it's because Americans aren't used to it."

do you mean american populace or the car makers? because the american car makers are getting spanked, so whether or not they're use to it, the american people want the quality AFAIK. its just some people are either too patriotic or for some reason other have some fascination over certain american cars (which is OK i guess). i agree about what youre saying though.

about the design of cars, keep in mind most cars are going to look atleast somewhat similar due to current technologies and aerodynamics and shit.

No not yet...

Though I'm really disappointed with my previous purchase (2004 Ford Explorer XL) because it hasn't held it’s value worth a shit. I put $1,300.00 down, got 0% interest when I bought it and it's still worth less than I owe. Fucking Ford!!

Being that's how it is and I don't want to go over my wife's current auto allowance that she gets from work, I'm looking at several different options. 1.) I'd like to find some lower interest financing, because I just can't bring myself to pay 7% on an auto loan. 2.) I'm also going to look into selling the Ford myself, because the dealer is going to rape me on it. 3.) I want to look into manufacturers who are offering financing incentives on their vehicles.

We may have changed gears a little too. The wife has always wanted a Hummer, so we’re going to take a look at the H3s. They’re also offering 0% financing as well. Who knows, its all still up in the air….

I have A child, and in November his college will be paid for. As far as worrying about his future is concerned, I’m not. He’ll be well taken care of.

For your future amusement and since you’re so concerned, I’m a project manager for an electrical contractor…..
