Hard drive and cd-rom hook ups for a gaming rig?

Post by FragaGeddon »

I have my gaming rig and was wondering how I should hook up the drives in what order?

I was thinking something like:

Primary IDE:

Master: OS Hard Drive
Secondary: CD-ROM

Secondary IDE:

Master: Gaming Files Hard Drive
Secondary :

Just wondering if my game files will load faster if they are on the secondary master.

Probably not, unless it's a faster drive.

But data transfer from your primary drive or CD-ROM to the secondary HDD will be faster.

Really the question is, which two of those units do you do the most transferring between? You want them on separate channels

purely speculation (given the lack of information about your system bus speed, among other hardware considerations), but your system would probably perform much faster with an inexpensive SATA card and sata data (??) drive than with a secondary IDE.

Most of my games are installed on a secondary master. I can tell no difference from either drive.. theres just no change in load speed from one drive to the other.
[size=75][i]I once had a glass of milk.

It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.

I am now sick.
