Installing map packs

Ive read the faq, the stickies, and used the search button so dont flame me and say that. How do I install map packs ive downloaded? I dont see them anywhere in quake 3 areana whan I put them in...

They simply go into your baseq3 directory.

yer, unzip/unrar into your Baseq3 directory as what's-his-face said. they don't "install", they just get moved or copied there.

they dont show up when I create a new room :(

what do you mean they dont show up when you make a new room?

Are you referring to texture sets to use while making a map for Quake?

I think he means they dont show up in the map options when creating a server. thats normal. q3 wont show you all the maps installed, but you can load them using /map mapname

still curious to know what he actually meant. Perhaps he solved the problem already?
