Shots being delayed? :/

Post by DannyBoy1 »

I just started playing QuakeIII, and I noticed that my shots seem to lag behind.. Like, there's a small delay from when i press the shoot button until the actual shot is fired. This is easiest seen when I'm using the lightning gun... I included a picture that may help you understand my problem:

In that pic, I dragged my aim from right to left. As you can see, my crosshair is ahead of the light.

It isn't really supposed to be like this, is it?

Is there a solution

Thanks for your time.

that is the lag of your internet connection,

and there is no real "Fix" for it, other then Cg_truelightning 1

But some servers dont allow that at all.

Hmm, but I've seen some videos of the lightning gun going straight for the middle.. Maybe those games were played at lan? :/

you did
/cg_truelightning 1
and it's still doing it?
Did you try it offline, or on the server you play on?
The server may have that set on their end.

In any case the LG does do that and turning on truelightning just lies to you.

Although, that does look pretty severe in your shot. Were you changing direction at Mach 2 or something?

Drop down the console and enter these:

/rate 25000
/snaps 60
/cl_maxpackets 125
/com_maxfps 125
/cg_truelightning 1

its as simple as that..
and btw, it dosent matter the size of your pipe or pingtime, lag is still lagg... the LG does that with a 2MS ping to a server with Truelightning set to 0.. simple as that

oh, I get it.. It's supposed to be that way. Thanks guys.

Well that leaves me with one other problem... What about the other shots? Railgun etc.. They are delayed, making aiming very hard :/

I put those rates into my config too.. Doesn't seem to help.

Guess it's worth a last reply.. Anyone know the solution? =)

Did you mean 40 ping or 400 ping?

You'll either have to lead your shots or play a mod like InstaUnlagged, which has built-in lag compensation. CPMA comes with rather advanced netcode, too.

40 ping is pretty much nil. If you're having trouble making shots with 40 ping then you probably just need general practice.

cg_truelightning is a lie. Your beam will be on the crosshair, but the server does not actually register it at that position. Imo it is beter to disable it and get used to the lag.
