extreme as in faster and garbled vocals perhaps, but none of that makes it any heavier.

OK... I'm mildly embarrased to admit i like that justin timberlake song.. sexy back.. dunno the actual title. I thought a chick sang it though :olo:

There's something about that distorted track mixed with the bass line that comes out really well.

But like others in this thread, I'm not really embarrased because I listen to absolutely everything.

When I was in my coverband, we played all kinds of music and songs: Tom Jones, Neil Young, Olivia Newton-John, Madonna and 70s Easy Listening-stuff à la Burt Bacharach. It was awesome to meddle with these cool songs and make them kinda Your own.

So, in conclusion - I never found any music to be embarassing. Maybe apart fom "Why can't I be You?" by the Cure. Which I like, but won't admit I do.

Not embarassed at this one...the last solo by slash in this is one of my all time favorite guitar bits. Would it be hard to play it?

NO metal solos are hard to play? None? Nada?

I would think that some of what those guys do isn't easy.

We've already talked several times here about all time great guitarists, so I don't want to go down that road again though.

Some are hard, yes. Hardness of a guitar solo is totally relative obviously. But generally, solos from bands like GnR or some Metallica shit (some of Kirk's solos off AJFA are pretty fucked up, that's about it though) are fairly simple. Just pentatonic wanking as Kane said. Some of Megadeth's solos are a bit harder actually... the solo from Tornado of Souls is pretty fuckin' nutty (yea I know there is crazier shit out there, blow me). I don't think you play guitar so I won't go into it, but check it out if you haven't heard it before.

@Kane: Slayer doesn't play scales. They play chromatic and atonal shredfests.

Also, not all metal solos are pentatonic wankery. That's just an elitist snob remark from jazz-types, of which Kane appears to be. Not to bash you Kane, but jazz people are renowned for being stuck up fagets :olo:

tnf, check out some songs from a band called Dream Theater... it's progressive stuff. Not sure if you're into any of that stuff, but the lead guitarist for that band is regarded in many guitar circles as one of the best, if not the best, guitarists of our age.

that's because it's Friedman's solo. most of his aren't easy to play, and if someone says they are, they're lying.

yep, that's a fucking classic. and it's also one of my favorite solos (he's got a couple that i love). technically challenging? nope, but nobody here would be able to pull off that feel.

Yep. I believe actually that solo is in two parts, Mustaine wrote the second part. You can tell Mustaine is picking cuz he has an extremely aggressive picking style. When he's alternate picking them notes it sounds like he's just ripping the string in half with his pick.

But yeah, Friedman writes some pretty slick sound shit I must say :icon32:

I like a lot of George Michael tracks, but for some reason people automatically assume you're gay just for listening to them. I was watching the most recent episode of Nip/Tuck the other day, and that has "Jesus To A Child" as the end song.... even my own mother called me a homo when she heard it from my speakers! Disgraceful.
