Rail Gun Tips

Post by vman »

These are some good tips for Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag games:

- I like a high sensitivity. For fast games where you're always moving, an enemy might appear in the corner of your screen. It's good to be able to aim at him quickly before he gets a chance to shoot you.

- Strafe. Strafing is a good way to get a shot at people from far distances. First of all, I find it easier using strafe to aim at somebody close to my crosshair. Also, it lets you move side to side to evade attacks while shooting at the same time. A good way of using this advantage is to hide behind a wall while you're reloading and then strafing back to attack your enemy.

- Don't stop moving. In rail gun games, stopping will give enemies a good chance to frag you. If you need to stop to type something, you should at least find a hiding place or a corner.

- Jump and attack. Jumping and strafing at the same time makes it much harder for your enemies to frag you. It might take some practise. Also, jumping straight up in the air won't help you much so make sure your moving. You should try and jump as much as you can as long as you're in an area that has players from the other team on it. This also makes moving around faster if you can get used to it.

- Rail jump. Rail jumping is a technique not offered by all servers but does come in handy when it is. On a rail jump enabled server, you can launch yourself by shooting the ground close to you. Some handy ways of using this are:

1. Using a rail jump to quickly move from one side of a room to the other.

2. Using it along with strafe jumping to help you against tough enemies.

3. Using a rail jump to get away from somebody shooting you, helpful if you're being teamed up on.

- Circle your enemy. Never run directly away or towards somebody against you. It doesn't help you at all unless you're trying to grab an item close by. Like I said before, you have to strafe left and right if you want to succeed with a rail gun.

- Use your senses. You need to be able to hear people if they're sneaking up behind you. You also need to listen for rail gun shots. A shot means one of three things:

1. Somebody is rail jumping. You never know what team they're on.

2. Somebody is shooting you. You need to be able to tell if somebody's on your tail.

3. 2 other people are shooting eachother. In TDM, it's especially important to help out you're team mates.

- Don't let your guard down. People on the other team won't hesitate to shoot if they see you. You shouldn't be focusing on any specific area. Make sure no one is following you every few seconds or so, especially if you're in your enemy's base on CTF.

- Catch them with their guard down. If you see anybody who is idoling or typing something then SHOOT. If you're in Q3CTF1 watch for people coming out of your enemies base. You can open the base doors by shooting them. By keeping them open like this, you'll have a clear shot at anyone coming out of the base. Also try and catch people jumping out of windows. Other than fragging people who are lagging, idoling or typing, the easiest way to frag somebody is to sneak begind them and get a shot away while they are'nt paying attention to you. Remember that.

- Learn to SNIPE. Practise makes perfect. If you can hit somebody who is a mere dot on your screen, you've done well. Don't forget that you need to have close range skills as well but you can always pull out the trusty gauntlet if you need to.

- Short term camping. A good, yet cheap, way of fragging people in a highly populated CTF game is to hide and frag people without them seeing you. Most games have anticampers disallowing you from staying in one place for very long, however you can always just move out of you're hiding position and return when no one is around to see you. It's important to kill as many people as possible that you can see for one simple reason; If they see you stuck in a corner, you're dead. A good way to help you with this is to set a button to zoom in. Zooming, if you can get used to it, can help you snipe people more easily from far distances.

If you can get good at all of these tips in CTF and TDM, you'll probably be in the top 3 on your team in every game. Please post any more tips if you have them. Thanx :icon32:

Camping in CTF...
In the mean time you could be getting the flag, escort your FC, escort the PU's to enemybase ect ect.
In short: be more usefull, espescially in a highly populated game :p Just my opinion.

Thanx, I sort of lost the whole flag capturing idea when I wrote this. I was just thinking about killing people :p ...

Try to relax your firing finger over the mouse button to try to make it so that to press the button down would require least ammount of force and movement as possible. This way your wrist/palm/finger wont tense up which could inadvertently move the mouse just before you fire.

hmmm... the rail gun...

i remember back then when we just use the rail gun for chances of fragging. As we Filipinos call "tsamba" or cheap shot...

it is a good weapon...

yeah... Well, i feel that the RG is never a cheap shot, although you can sometimes land a fluke.

It takes skill and experience to wield a formidable Railgun, im surprised that more advice than that is give, actually

Good info, I'll take it into account next time I'm playing.

P.S, rail"camping"(it's called defence) works in CTF undoubtedly. Back when I played OSP CTF excessively, I could lock down the mid on cp9 on a good day with 60+% accuracy in pickup games. The basedef was bored out of his mind :p

:D I got that too. But i stopped playing CTF after a while, now im on to exclusively FFA Deathmatches.

Railing for me is used when a foe is too far away and a rocket or shotgun blast just wont cut it.

listening

Post by Ladouane »

about listening after other players. i can here if another player is near by, even if i can't hear their steps, their jumps or their gun. when it's completely quiet around you, except for the q3 sound, that low q3 sound gets stronger. just a tip so you can hear when someone is around the corner! didn't notice it in the beginning, it's hard to notice it but if you try perhaps. i dunno.. maybe it's not hard, maybe i'm just late and stupid :p

Becuase Railgun is very strong and does not need head shot to frag your target. I feel that its sorta cheap with most CTF maps becuase with any more then 3 campers and its gg to thos who cant possision themselfs to counter. Even worse of my experiances is people using aim bots with rail gun getting 65+ frags in less then 5 minutes if you tell me that is possible with an equaly skilled team then i have to then be amazed in that skill but i doubt its possible... with mid/high skilled players that is.

I think you ment (hear) as to listen to a sound. not here as to a location.

No it won't be equally skilled... But some are just more experienced then others. I've seen a demo of 87% in a full CTF game, no aimbot, about 50 ping, although the map is CTF4.

I thought most servers still use PB, it's not a guarantee nothing will happen, but it's hard to prove a hack (almost impossible if it's not too obvious).

This guy was not missing one single shot... not to mention getting excelent on every shot almost and everyone else there i have played with for a while now... we all had 29 or 30 frags most and he had 65 frags with in less then 5 minutes... but oh well i dont see the thrill in knowing that the only reason i win is cheating... i think its lame. I have seen really good players with less then 50 ping do well in 4 to 5 mins but not over 40 i mean thats alot... he had over 200 frags before we got 14 minutes into the game... i left so i dont know what he finished at but it was pathetic.

Well that does amaze me. Either way, Its no wonder everyone thought he was cheating becuase with 50 to 60 ping and a rail gun getting over 200 frags in less then 15 minutes i Don't think is that easy. I am fairly new to Q3 and can manage 40 to 60 in about 15 minutes, Minus blowing myself up and createring as much as I do...
