should i wait a little longer to see if the 4400 and beyond processors drop to under $200 in the coming weeks?

i really dont know what's going on with motherboards anymore. i'm basing this choice strictly on the comments on newegg and the sheer number of people that have bought it, plus it fits nicely into the budget ive alotted myself. ive also read elsewhere that this baord is good for overclocking which i may have interest in, though only minor. is there a better alternative? i would be willing to pay up to $125 for a motherboard. consider SLI a bonus.

vid card...under $100 is perfect as i only play q3 and q4 right now. im happy with 6600gt and may upgrade in the next 15 months. give me a reason why i should spend, at most, $150 on a video card.

hdd is 16mb cache. anyone have experience with this one? im not interested in RAID at all so is this pointless for me? think bang for buck.

everything else i already bought (ram, optical drives, case, psu).

thanks for your input/help.

also, was looking at buying xp for a family member so they will finally ditch 98SE but noticed the OEM versions running @ $137 and retail at $250+!! wtf is with that? why is xp even more expensive now than it was a year ago, if i recall correctly?

i would spend a little more and get a Nvidia 7600,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814130017

Cmon! its only $40 ( more ) :)
( i couldent find BFG on that list.... :/ )

as for the HDD, MAxtor is faster then WD in the current drives, so that might be a little to consider....

Other then that, you Go grrl!

It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.

I am now sick.

i would agree with soap, You can Barly notice it and its only in a few things that its faster... but not by much..

I am just that kinda guy that it buggs me if i dont get EVERY possible Piece of performance out of a computer....

as for the price of XP, thats about the Going Rate Truthfully.... I payed $180 for a OEM Vir, i have seen them as low as $99 on sale... ( Cdn remember ) but that was only once...

This aint bad though: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/ ... &CatId=672

but seriously, everything is working fine except i have this annoying 'safe to remove hardware' icon always at startup. it is for my hdd. what is that from and should i be concerned about it? ive fully updated all system drivers. oddly i think i started getting that after i installed latest nforce drivers.

Sata is able to be Hot replaced... Thus you can plug it in and unplug it like a USB device.. thus windows puts it in that.

i have the same thing with mine :)

Might want to bump the HD up to a 250gb SATA, you'll find a lot of drives selling for cheap at that price.

OEM is a better choice since with retail you're just paying for a box and manual. It sounds like you just had a bit of bad luck with the drive. RMA it.

That would be worse advise.

Stick with newegg, and throw a fit when you call. Tell them that every drive you buy keeps going tits up and you want some compensation for the hassle.
