Notebook reboots

Post by Anti »

hi,

I recently bought a new notebook
-ASUS A7jc R500M T2400 dual core
-ATI X1600
- 2048 mb DDR2 ram
-17"

When playing quake 3 arena on this machine the notebook reboots while playing the game. Sometimes after 5 min, sometimes after 20 min. In the event viewer i get this error:

Code: Select all

0000000004: 2006-11-07 14:41:18:046 client Shell failed to initialize
 Error      Called by: ATI.ACE.CLI.Implementation.CLI::Main                                                             processID:01568 threadID:(CLIRuntime      ) domainName:(cli.exe                    ) assemblyName:(CLI.Implementation, Version=1.2.2278.38740, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=90ba9c70f846762e)
This does not occur when playing other games (such as Q4)

I already tried:
-Uninstalled ATI CCC
-Reinstalled ATI drivers
-Installed Omega drivers

Anyone who has had the same problem or anyone who has a solution for this, please?

Thx,

Voodoo

Update your graphics drivers, specifically, uninstall and re-install the catalyst control center, download and install the latest graphics drivers from the manufacturer's website. If this doesn't work and you're feeling adventurous, download the latest drvers from ATI directly, which is not recommended, but can help if you know what you're doing.

omega drivers are not foolproof.

i do not know why people trust them so much .. i always found them
terribly unstable and slower.

Back when I used ATi, I noticed that too. Factory Nvidia drivers are the best anyways.

Turn off automatic restart to get a BSOD (blue screen of death).

long time indeedely

10fps in bf2 is pretty significant but like quake3 hates overclocking "aparently" maybe it doesn't like the omegaa tweaks.

when i first read this post i was going to blame heat but since it seems to be only a quack3 problem then stick to what is known to work for testing.

damn it's hot today .. only +39 ..usually i bitched about -39 .
christmas in canada for me then back up here for much much longer.
wish u were here :)

Strange how of the coolest board vicars, Ax is so quiescent in describing his poignant exploits. Maybe it's so as not to implicate himself given the fact that he exit burns and pillages...

Post by Anti »

thx for the help.

I reinstalled the ati drivers (asus.com and ati.com)
I did a complete format, and now after playing an hour the screen freezes and i have to reset the notebook.
the eventviewer gives me this error:

Code: Select all

0000000001: 2006-11-15 17:38:52:250	null _aspectName
 Error	  Called by: ATI.ACE.CLI.Component.Dashboard.DashboardForm::_as  pectNameExists								 processID:00964 threadID:(CLIDashboard	) domainName:(Cli.EXE					) assemblyName:(CLI.Component.Dashboard, Version=1.2.2278.38898, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=90ba9c70f846762e)
anyone? i'm getting desperate here :(

completely uninstall the catalyst control center, without removing the drivers?
I don't remember whether it's compartmentalized, if not, then re-install the drivers alone afterwards.

It sounds like faulty memory or a faulty power supply. Return it for warranty repair (after backing up your personal data) or if that isn't applicable have it checked out by a tech certified on that manufacturer's notebooks.

Yep, CCC can be uninstalled without touching the drivers.

Either take it in and have it looked at or get used to the reboots.
