Wich CPU to Pair up with the 8800GTX?

Post by -SKID- »

Hey guys. Im building a new rig here soon, and was wondering about the CPU. Ive always been an AMD guy, but with Intel's new Core 2 Duo cpu. I might swing to the Intel side this time. I know they are quad core, and AMD is only Dual core. But by the time AMD comes out with a quad core, it will be too far away, and will cost too much money then. So my question is. What is the better CPU to Pair up with the BFG 8800 GTX http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a ... 6814143075

Athlon 64 FX-57 939 Pin Single-core http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 819103558R
Athlon 64 X2 5200+ AM2 Dual-Core http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819103758
Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 819115002R

Those are the ones Im considering. The Intel is pushing my budget, as the Video card is a huge chunk of change. What are your thoughts, and opinions?

i would obviously go with the core.. That cpu is Going to make whatever cpu/mobo/ram you go with the Bottleneck of the whole computer.

so the fastest that you can go with is the winnar.

The Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 is not quad core.

Hold the phone. Like I said, Im not an Intel man. But I swear when they were announced, they were said to be Quad-Core, and AMD fanboys were arguing about comparing amd's dual-core to Intel's quad-core? I thought the core 2 stood for two cores, and the duo, was for two more. Yeah it sounds stupid, but I guess I missed the bus on this one. :tear: Thanks for giving me the heads up though.

I'm good. Just been very busy. I lurked around here a couple of times though :)

Sidenote: The E6700 isn't quadcore, but it rocks hard anyway. One of the best CPUs you van get ATM IMHO.

Though you can get an Intel quad core now if you're willing to spend over a grand just for the cpu.

I'd go with the Core2 Duo.
