wow, nice to see nogueira in action again. I couldn't tell till the end who'd win. Minotauro must have a head of concrete, getting a lot of punches when he's in ground defense. Actually he's always on the ground, but his punches are definetely better. Shame he didn't get the submission right.

saturn, u realize that that was Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira's twin brother right?

both are excellent fighters, but the fight i linked to was Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (they have very similar names).

Rodrigo was the heavyweight champion, and he's bigger than Rogerio (and Rodrigo also has that scar on his back)

Damn, why did the commentators keep calling him Mintauro then? That's the heavyweight champion.

I can't stand it when a fighter refuses to get up, and lays on his back waiting for the other to come to him and grapple.

To me, it seems like a way of taking advantage of the courtesy of not getting blows below the belt.

If it were a real fight, it would be easy to just bash the guy's balls in. But since he knows that won't happen, he's content to lay on his back and just wait.

It's not like the other guy can just go lay on his back too. :smirk:

heh - you should see when fighters do that to cro cop, he just gestures them to get back up on their feet. The refs always restart the match in a standing position when such stalls occur, so it's not a big deal.

I think they said that one of the criteria Pride judges look at in scoring is aggression.

Do you think it counts against them to lie on their backs and wait like that?

If so, I can't help but think that really hurt Rogerio in that fight.

yea it probably doesn't reflect well - nogueira brothers are geniuses on the ground, which is why they're willing to let the opponents attempt a mount.

Shogun must be pretty good at it too, as well as he managed to break all Rogerio's attempts at an arm-bar.
