Heroes is excellent. Stick with it because it takes a few episodes to get going.

You're wrong about the Captain in Firefly though. He is excellent from the start.

BSG, Kidnapped (cancelled midseason but the remaining eps can be watched online @ ABC's website), Veronica Mars

24 is ok, if that's all you can afford

I've seen the first 4 seasons of 24. There aren't enough likable characters on that show for me or something. I've been resisting BSG. I watched one episode (an early one) and was kind of turned off by it.

I'll check out Veronica Mars.

Is Lost worth watching at all? It just seemed like a big wind-up from the discussions I read here.

NCIS and Boston Legal, though I've heard that BL may be going the fruit fuck route of Alley McBeal (i.e., we've run out of ideas so let's get retarded). I've not watched this season of BL at all, but season 1+2 on DVD was fantastic.

Lost is a MUST
Heros has been pretty damn good...but not as good as the first 2 seasons of lost were.

interesting how all the good TV shows these days are american. british TV used to have this reputation as being the finest known to humanity but that isn't true any more. all it is now is endless lavish dickens/bronte costume dramas, and most of those suck dicks. 'martin chuzzlewit' was the best i've seen in a long time, and that's over 10 years old

'rome' was an exception to the decline though

Go download Twin Peaks season 1 and 2 (I say download because the S2 boxset STILL isn't available to buy). I watched it again recently after a few years and it's still incredible.

I've caught up with all the episodes after Jul's recommendation to watch Dexter. Seems great so far!

Just so you know. All the people saying Prison Break are lieing. It's "ok" at best, terribly contrived at the worst.

I watch Dexter, BSG and Lost.

Ideally I would like to watch a show for every day of the week, so I can watch a new episode every day.
