Microsoft Mouse Wheel Click

Post by foralarx2k3 »

Just bought a Microsoft Comfort mouse to replace my old three button no scroll wheel balled mouse. The problem I have is that up until now I've always used the middle mouse button as jump. But the MS mouse wheel click action only reacts on release of the wheel ... ie: push it down and nothing ... release and I jump. :(

I'm sure I read somewhere that there is a solution to this but I don't seem to be able to find it anywhere. Does anyone have any ideas before I start on a reconfig of keys.

Thanks in advance.

Yup, that's pretty much what I've ended up doing tbh.

Gone from (basics, only here):

WASD + q (lg/mg) + e (pg/sg) + m1 (attack) + m3 (jump) + m2 (rg/rl)

to:

ESDF + q(pg), w(rl), r(rg), t(sg), a(mg), g(lg), v(gl), m1(attack), m2(jump)

Still learning the new key config. Keep trying to press keys I shouldn't... but I'll get there.

EDIT: Aaaaaaaarrrrrrrghhhhh!!!! Why do Microsoft have to be so f. gay :icon33: :icon23: :tear: ..... that's it I'm taking this thing back ... f. pile of junk. ... I just can't get use to using anything but middle mouse to jump... I'm just too conditioned to it.

EDIT2: Ok in the cold light of day ... I took the mouse back ... (for anyone else using the mousewheel click for jumping .. learn from my mistake and avoid any of the MS range with the sideways scroll wheel feature on them) .... have sourced a couple of three button no wheel mice (as their hard to find and thought it pudent to have a backup laying around) and now as happy as Larry again :)

Locky thread time please :)

The comfort 3000 mice are a pain in the ass with the scroll wheel. My dad's got one and middle-click only works if you hit it at just the right angle - not at all suitable for a constantly used gaming key.

You just picked a bad mouse, is all. A decent mx series logitech will be your new best E-friend in no time.

Hi,

I wanted to post a follow up to this thread. I never found a solution and it seems there isn't really one out there.

To recap:- The Microsoft Comfort Mouse and indeed any of the Microsoft mice with the side scrolling mouse wheel feature have a subtle difference in that the click action on the wheel only works on the release of the wheel. IE: push it down and nothing ... release and you get the action assigned to the wheel click.

In most cases this wouldn't affect most people but I'm strangely different ... oi I saw you nodding your heads in agreement :p .... in that I use the mouse click as my jump button. So the delay in the action is fatal to me.

In the end I took the mouse back and went back to old PS2 mouseman three button balled mouse with no wheel. Upset that I'd never join the optical / laser revolution and be forever having to clean my mouse ball rollers out :(

Fortunately those days are over .... I was in PC World when I discovered the new Microsoft Laser Mouse 6000 complete with Quicksteel Pad for an amazing promotional price of just £19.99... wow!!

The wheel has no side scroll and the click is on the press not the release. And it's ultra-responsive .... I am one very happy bunny... finally Microsoft released a product I can whole heartedly recommend.

Just thought I'd share my joy... I'm moff for a happy fragging session :)

Update

Well it's just over a month and I find myself taking back the whole-heartedly recommend bit. Maybe it's my play style I don't know, but I've found the mouse skips or sticks or whatever you want to call it if you move the mouse quickly/ suddenly ... and here's the crux of my problem ... I play RA3 almost every night and in order to Rocket Jump .. an essential in RA3 .. well god ... you all know how to RJ ... I'm not gonna teach you to suck eggs here .. surfice to say I find myself snapping the movement and not quite having the gun pointing at the floor. The other thing is I can't quite seem to get the wheel to click and hit the left mouse button (button 1) at the same time ... and that means it screws up the RJ. This doesn't happen all the time and I have a feeling it's more me than the mouse but it's enough to put me off sticking with it, cause I hate having to have to think about something that should be a natural game movement and be forcing it.

So to this end I have just purchased a Razer Deathadder and I'm awaiting delivery ... I'll post back initial feedback on the mouse once I have it ... and then I'll do the same after a month or so of having used it in a few league games.
