Need help on "Quake 3 Arena"

I just recently purchased "Quake III Arena", and my question is, How do I play with other people? I would really like a detailed explination.

annihilation is a great vid. some of those mid-air rocket frags were amazing. i was so inspired i fired up Q3 for the first time in a while and had a go. needless to say i managed maybe two out of 900000 attempts
