a mate wants to get her kid a video card for his pc (xmas present from his dad with crappy onboard video). she's only got £50 to spend. thought that might be okay because you can pick up a decent enough AGP card for that much - but the machine only has a PCI-E slot and i don't know a damned thing about new pc hardware.
have seen a couple of 256MB PCI-E cards for the right money, but they don't have fans (which i would've thought a gaming card needed). example:

is it worth her getting one of these, or is it going to be too weak for playing games on? could a card like this run doom 3 at 800 x 600 with medium settings?
