i haven't heard scarve, but gorgototh suck, silly screechy singer and overly fast and incomprehensible drum bashing :/

(reference songs):
1417 Misc - [Gorgoroth] Begravelsesnatt [2:35]
1418 Misc - [Gorgoroth] Crushing the Scepter [3:23]

i don't mind anaal natharakh, but i much much prefer more melodic stuff.

gorgoroth has quite some crappy songs, but also some great ones like 'incipit satan', 'funeral procession' and 'revelation of doom' (last one has quite a kickass drum bashing :P

mactatus is a pretty fine band too, pretty dark yet still quite medolic

speaking of medolic metal, i guess therion is the best on that field

but then again, im not really into metal that much :O

Therion fucking own.

Rhapsody are good for cheesy stuff, as are Nightwish and Sonata Arctica (both of which i've seen) I love cheesy metal

\o/ devin townsend and strapping young lad both have a considerable collection on my playlist..

i doubt you'll like sonata arctica if you dont like nightwish/rhapsody.

check out Children of Bodom if you can; they're still cheesy but not in such an over the top manner, they're another band i've seen live. Next month i'm fulfilling a dream and seeing GWAR!

Mmmm, Slayer was the original. :icon6: They were defining the style when these others were still shitting in thier diapers. I have no doubt that these other bands are worth thier salt, but you must pay homage to the founders. They were doing thier thing when Metallica were in thier infancy, Venom was there but... oh well. There were others, but Slayer was the top of the heap by leaps and bounds. They will always be the ones that are remembered.

I had a good friend that liked them, but that was my extent of Venom exposure. Eh, just too cheesy for me.

yeah i remember first seeing Venom on the Ultimate Revenge vhs back in the day. that was the one that was filmed at Studio 54 in NY. funny though, Slayer and Exodus were live and Venom had some sh*t video and a couple of live songs but filmed in some other location over in England. f@gs.

My Exodus exposure started when I went to the local Hastings and saw Pleasures of the Flesh and bought it. After I was thoroughly satisfied with that I went back and found Bonded with 2 extra tracks. Then I got the rest up to Good Friendly Violent Fun. Nothing else until the new one last year. Still have a couple to get.
