how to manually install quake3
o manually install the game, follow these steps:
1) Double-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop.
2) Double-click on the C: drive or the drive you would like to install Quake III Arena to.
3) Click on the file menu at the top, and highlight new, then select Folder from the menu.
4) A new folder will show up highlight on the screen, name it Quake III Arena.
5) Close the window, double-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop again.
6) Right-click on the CD-ROM drive (Make sure the quake 3 Arena CD is in the drive), select Explore from the menu.
7) On the right pane you should see a list of files and one folder labeled "Quake3". Double-click on that folder to open it.
8) Highlight the "baseq3" folder, hold down the Ctrl key and highlight the "quake3.exe" file too.
9) Once those 2 items have been selected, go to the edit menu at the top, select Copy.
10) Close the window, double-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop again.
11) Double-click on the drive you created the folder in earlier. Then double-click on the Quake III Arena folder.
12) Once inside the Quake III Arena folder, go to the edit menu and select Paste. All the files should copy over.
13) Once the files copy over, go into the baseq3 folder (the one on your hard drive, not the one on the CD), right-click on the q3config.cfg and select on Properties.
14) If there is a check in the Read-only box, uncheck it. If you do not uncheck it, Quake III Arena will crash when you try to play or change settings. Once it's unchecked, click the OK button.
15) You can access the game by making a shortcut on the desktop to the Quake3.exe file.
