Here is a quick rundown of what the different versions have. Click. Also if you click the details of each version at the top at the bottom of the page that loads it shows the upgrade and full price of that OS.
I have used Vista, RC1, nothing that truly inspired me except the popup for any system changes, while that would get annoying during the initial install and setup, it would be nice later when you aren't tweaking things as a built in security feature. The one feature I look forward to is the ability to use a thumb drive as a cache drive.
As for downsides, I miss having the controls at the top, like File, Edit View etc. It makes finding how to show hidden files and folders a pain. Also I was trying to alter things on the desktop and all the menus that are in the Display Options in XP are seperate menus that are slightly hard to find. The fucking huge icons on the desktop annoy me.

ok i've read through this thread and the thing that I can see that vista has above xp is :
instant driver installation (or something like that)
is there any other compelling reason to use vista (other than due to upcoming compatibility and conformity issues)?
i.e. is it a superior operating system to XP?
and what's the advantage of the aero stuff - doesn't really look functionally superior - just gimmicky...

actually i would have to say it is more like a mac os in the sense that by default with all vista options turned on it's pretty difficult to get viruses and spy ware, and more so for newbies. so i guess if you had to choose an os for your mother (not insinuating that your mom is a noob at computers, but in general) vista would be a good choice.[xeno]Julios wrote:ok i've read through this thread and the thing that I can see that vista has above xp is :

it's definately supperior to xp, but it has it's flaws as well. and if you have an old computer, i wouldn't upgrade since it will just slow you down

OK! But you need a real monster machine to run it. Best with a dual core, 1 to 2G of rams. And if you don't have a HD high end graphic card, it doesn't worth it.
I think that the PC manufacturers and retail stores will do some good business for the next couple of years...again. Thanks to Microsoft.
Man, that guy must have an underground PC maker Cie or as lobeists do, have contact with IBM, Dell and the like.

"the search box in a Mac is on the top right corner, now in Windows its in the lower left corner, so its not the same! Windows did not rip this idea from Mac"
lol, so if i steal Windows code and re-arrange the location of all the icons and buttons, i could potentially sell it as my own software?
