disable Windows file protection?

Post by 4g3nt_Smith »

Everytime I try to apply some tweak, fix, or other assorted "hack", XP bitches about it finding a non-default file or sommat nad I have to hit cancel, and it asks me if I'm sure I want to keep the non-standard file. I distinctly remember checking the "disable Windows File protection" box when I made my slipstream disc, but obviously it didn't take. Is there a way to fix this so it doesn't pop up (Pro SP2)?

Hmm, hex editing a system file... Two mouse clicks guaranteed, or hexing a file that could hose my new install...

You asked for a solution and got it. Its a simple matter to backup the DLL first and restore it if the edit didn't work.

You also may note that Microsoft turned off the ability to diable SFC in SP2 so the hex edit is the only way I've found to disable it.
