MultiRes INI

Post by Kills On Site »

Well here at the school we need teachers to be able to view and use the display properties of the monitor and graphics card. Unfortunately this cannot be done simply by right clicking on the desktop and going to properties due to the fact that the school uses Novell. The only way to change things is by having an application in the Novell Delivered Applications. The school uses a program called MultiRes for the teachers to have the ability to change the resolution. It works by creating a shortcut in the Novell Delivered Applications which runs MultiRes with a given set of parameters or an INI file to use. The reason that the desktop properties need to accessed is so that teachers can force the screen onto a TV via S-Video. Any guidance on how to get this done?

Well I tried using a shortcut to C:\Windows\System32\desk.cpl, Novell said not a valid Win32 application. So then I tried C:\Windows\System32\Control.exe with a parameter of desk.cpl. Novell now says this operation cannot be completed due to restrictions on this computer. Where might those particular restrictions be in Novell, anyone know?

Thats what I've been wondering. If the sys admin does his/her job worth a damn they're probably going to be more than a little annoyed at a student mucking about with settings.

It was the sys admin who asked me to research this. He has to get approval from a higher up person to put the control panel exe on the accepted list in Novell.
