How can i just play against my friend ?

Post by mrtypr »

Hello, im kinda new to playing quake 3 multiplayer. My friend started playing and i would love to play just against him. Is there anyway i can connect to his computer and just play in a private match, connecting through his IP address or something? If there is a way please tell...

cheers...

click on the multiplayer menu and then up at the top of the screen where it says "source" click it till it says "local" and then create a game. :) easy.

Also, read the stickies for information like this

if your friend isnt in your network you cant use the Local filter, but you can just hit 'specify' and fill in his ip.

Normally within one or two seconds. Trying to connect to each other doesn't cut it. One of you has to host a server, the other one needs to connect to it.

Also, if you are behind a router, make sure that the one hosting the server has his ports correctly configured. I beleive Quake 3 uses Port 27960.

If you have no idea how to forward ports on your router, check this link out:
http://portforward.com/english/routers/ ... rindex.htm

Look up your router on that, and it'll tell you how to forward ports on it.
