So it is saying that if you have XP, 2000 or Vista installed already you can completely destroy that installation and install Vista as a new and fresh install, but you can't do it without the pre-existing copy of Windows installed?

Only if it's the update. If you want a clean install on a new HDD, you have to buy a full copy. Nothing special there.

Maybe overclocking the CPU is involved in the score?
Read my post...
What is the make/model of your video card? My laptops gf7400go has 'turbo-caching', which is 128mb dedicated and 128mb shared system ram. Although I doubt any type of desktop card would have that type of feature. It probably just detected your ram type wrong.
I cracked...
after 3 good years my XP-Pro totally shit its pants (completely lost login capability, was sadly unfixable)
happened because I tried to re-install IE to fix some anoying issues it was having... amazing how microsoft OSes can still be completely busted if the web-browser gets fucked up.
anyway... Vista-Business is free for me through School's MSDN; so i put it on.
You gotta pretty good score for that card, which makes me think more that this thing doesn't recognize hardware properly... that and the 9800 pro sure as hell doesn't share system ram
I just remembered reading about DX10 a while ago, and how it is supposed to share system memory with video memory in order to utilize certain features. I wonder if this has anything to do with that.
FragaGeddon wrote:So they set the base score by the lowest subscore which seems really retarded.
Why? It's not like a median value would say anything about the user experience. The lowest performing component, say for example a slow CPU, will slow your system down regardless of your amount of RAM or your graphics card. There is always a bottleneck somewhere, and that bottleneck will decide your experience.

yeah, just install Vista without a code and you can even use a update key on that
