should I dual channel my memory or not?

what's best for an office computer type of usage? wouldn't a gig of ram fair better with multitasking between light processing programs, instead of 2x512 dual settup? no video gaming is going to take place

dual channel should be a bit quicker since it splits ram data to the two, instead of filling up one first, then the other.
I could be wrong though.

You mean 1x1GB versus 2x512MB in dual channel?

2x512MB is of course the best choice, why would there be any benefit of 1x1GB? It's still 1GB.

There is absolutely no benefit at all to a single-channel RAM setup. All you're doing is cutting your RAM transfer speed in half.

The only benefit that I can see of a single stick setup is to allow expandability in the near future. But even then, it's recommended that you buy dual-channel pairs at the same time, so buying two 1-Gb sticks seperately still might not net you a 2Gb dual-channel setup.

Definitely go for dual if feasible. Memory's cheap now, dual 2Gb isn't much more....
