Weird Quirks in Hardware

This should be interesting, i want to know what weird things that you guys/gals have hardware do to you.

Take for exapmle, i was just reminded on my MSi K8n Neo 2 Platnum that the Nforce2 Network controller dosent work, So, i disabled it... as soon as i clicked "disable" the computer rebooted.

hahaha, Or how about this one, an old Netgear router 4port switch+ 802.11B.. when a wireless client would connect, it would disconnect the modem and all clients could access the router but not the internet...

Even beter, i have an old Asus p2b with an old Cel in it, This was the BEST Server EVER.. no matter what happened or what you did to the computer, if you plugged it in.. it was on.. simple as that..

if you pressed the power button, it would shutdown windows and reboot. If you held the power button it would shut off Untill you let go of the botton. Perfect for a 24/7 folding/server box

So cmon, Gimmie some Odd things that your hardware has done.

I used to have a 56k modem that wouldn’t connect unless there was a phone plugged in the Line-Out port...

I have a laptop with an intel proset wireless that won't work with windows zero wireless service under xp. Had to install intel apps to get it going. :icon33:

i thaught of a good one, i had a laptop if you held it on your lap on a ~30º angle downward the screen would invert its colors.

No lie, that was the ONLY way that it would do it. i turned it wile holding it, and etc. it needed to be sitting on its own weight and brough down slightly.

computer fails to boot
buy new cpu ..no boot
buy new mobo ..no boot
buy new psu.. no boot
buy new video card .. no boot
plug in spare keyboard ..success.
my keyboard decided to cost me $1000

Back when I had my 486, once on a blue moon when booting up the computer, the TV in the other room would turn on and off mysteriously.

i wonder if it gave off some IR radiation that was just the right frequency to turn it off.

I accidentally knocked my microphone off my desk. After that, whenever I recorded anything, it recorded the mic feedback too so I kept getting a constant hum in recordings. Then I accidentally dropped it again and it was working. After knocking it down yet again and getting the hum back, I just chucked it at the floor and got it working again

Back when 486s roamed the land, I had this crazy CRT monitor that you had to treat just right. You could switch to 320x200 or the various Mode X resolutions no problem, but as soon as you switched to 640x480 or higher all hell broke loose: you'd hear a "CLUNK" coming from inside, the colors went psychedelic and worst of all, something mad happened to the horizontal sync and you'd end up with the left side of the image starting at the center. Rebooting the PC or turning the screen off and on didn't help a bit; it would take bloody HOURS before the view went back to normal.

The day I got a replacement, I smashed the beast with a baseball bat.

If it was an old television then this worked because the remote control system for the TV works via ultrasonics rather than infra red. Your PC made noises in the right range to turn the set off.

I was thinking the same as riddla, but the TV was literally older than I am, so Foo might be on the right track with the ultrasonics. It came with a remote (powered by a 9-volt battery) and a separate receiver box independent of the TV.

Really old Philips Magnavox that I finally decided to toss out earlier this year. I kept the remote and box for nostalgia purposes.

Here's a photo of the remote and box. I figure I can gut it and mod a Mini Mac and Apple TV or something into it.
