Issue with DNS and my home server.

Post by eepberries »

Recently I set up a new router (note: not a modem & router, just a router) at home and set it up to work with my web server. When I set up the new router, I was assigned a new IP address (I don't know why this would happen; can someone explain this?) I forwarded the proper ports and got everything working, except I can't access my websites through DNS. I updated the DNS service to reflect the IP change, yet I can still only access the server using the connection's IP address and not through the DNS service.

When I tried using nslookup, I got the following response. What does the first section mean? Is this part of the problem?
nslookup ohshi.dyndns.org
*** Can't find server name for address 172.16.192.64: Server failed
*** Default servers are not available
Server: UnKnown
Address: 172.16.192.64

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: ohshi.dyndns.org
Address: 69.243.91.206

Looks like there wasn't a host name assigned to the router. Nothing to worry about.
