FanaticX wrote:DB, how's the Epson 4490 vs the 4990? IQ difference? speed per scan? don't really need the multiple scanning function. There is a 2.5x difference in price. What else does the 4990 offer over the 4490?

cheers
not much in it. for film scanning you need a v750 pro with fluid mount!

I just got the V700.. It's pretty nice. All the scans I posted on flickr yesterday were made with it. The negative holders are flakey though

You try holding a MF camera still with that big ass mirror in low light :p

Oh wait, it's on a tripod... I didn't notice that the first time

So anyway, after shooting almost nothing but film this semster I've decided to sell my:

300 f/4 - rarely used
50 1.4 - too slow (focusing)
85 1.8 - never use it
17-40 f/4 - too wide/gimmicky, nice lens though
5D and 1DMIIN - consolidate into a 1D MIII

I'm not selling until this summer since it's going to Canon service to get rid of the high ISO banding (I won't sell it to you if they don't fix it) and the university I work for wants me to shoot baseball. My plan now is to let it go after that for 2500 USD, but I want to see what other MIIN's are selling for before I do it. I spent nearly 4K on it, so I don't want to lose an arm and a leg on it if I don't have to

It's film, so in this case the noise is grain that's been made noisy with sharpening since it wasn't sharp to begin with

Here's a light HDR from my room the other morning:

Trying to balance a camera and tripod on a windowsill is both tricky and risky. >:E

I'd say he's under bridge with either fluorescent lighting or lots of algae in the water
