LCD backlight issues on laptop

Post by ToxicBug »

I have a Compaq V2000 series laptop and it has a problem. The backlight doesn't work if I turn the laptop on without having a power cord connected.

If I turn it on without the cord, then connect the cord and press and release the backlight switch (the one that turns off the backlight when the lid is closed) then the backlight comes on and stays.

If I just press and release the switch without attaching the power cord, then the light comes on for a moment and goes off again.

The screen had some dead pixels so I sent it to HP to get the screen replaced under warranty and the issue appeared after I received it.

I've sent the laptop to HP again to get this issue fixed, but they didn't do anything and sent it back to me with a paper saying that they didn't find the issue.

I'm 100% certain its a software issue, just not sure where to look.

EDIT: I've formatted the HDD and reinstalled WinXP Pro SP2 and the issue is still there. I think its some sort of an inherent driver fuckup.

Send it back to them again, in detail telling them the steps that you need to do to get the issue.

you cant just ship it to them expecting them to magically find the issue.

I explained it extremely clearly 3 times when I was talking to tech support about it. The next step will be talking to quality control, so it should be fixed then, however it sucks not having a laptop for a week, so I wanna see if I can fix this myself before sending it again.

the issue isent Software/driver related.. its as simple as that.. so no your cant fix it..

they will need to do the work, its most likly the power management issue on the laptop.

the only option that i would try if i was exausting all posibilitys is flashing the Bios.. past that, send it again and get it sorted.

Funny how the low-level support monkeys couldn't figure out that a bios update would have fixed it, eh?

Worst of all is that on the paper that said that they didn't find the issue, it was written that "just to make sure, we updated your BIOS and restored it to the original configuration"... fucking liars, my old BIOS version was dated from something like July 2006.

You'r lucky, some of the brands dont allow the Bios to do the power management on the laptop, wile yours does.

That was the reason for my comment, But turns out your does.. glad you got it working.
