Iv heard that i need one of these to run a quake 3 server from my computer. I came across this website which tells me how to set one up. What i want to know is will doing this effect any of the other computers on the home wireless netwokr which i am connected to and which numbers should i be typing inside the boxes?

Yeah cheers for the quick reply foo. Im aware of such there may be reasons not to do so which is why im asking on this forum. Some of the reasons involve?

1. Whether you have a static or dynamic IP is usually dictated by your ISP
2. Quake servers do not run well over residential internet connections

Those are the big 2.

DSL IP changes each time the modem is turned off. It still allows me to set up servers in any game :o

Do any games accept domain names? You could perhaps setup an account with http://www.no-ip.com and have people connect to something like animal.hopto.org.

Almost all, I should think (the Quakes certainly do). There's still the problem of updating after your IP address has changed. The name servers of many ISPs cache lookups, so it might be a while before the change is picked up by them.
