Actually from what I've read people are speculating that this is a posh boy trying to pretend he's not. I have no idea, I've not spent enough time in London to tell mockney from cockney.
For whatever reason, London accents are seen as cool now. It was pretty annoying when British music was trying to sound American but I'd say these days singers are far more likely to affect a working class regional British accent accent than an American one.
