Hiding folders and files?

Post by FragaGeddon »

Anybody use a program to hide your files & folders?
And if so, which one?
Right now I'm trying Universal Shield.

But if you enable show hidden files and folders, then someone would see it.

and if you disable universal shield, you would too

if someones smart enough to unhide it through the folder options, he (prolly she, hiding your porn) is smart enough to find another way

Folder Lock

This is pretty good, you lock your folder and it disappears.

Truecrypt - http://www.truecrypt.org/

It's free, and no ones getting in unless you give them the password. Basically it creates a virtual drive which is contined within a single file, you mount it with the TrueCrypt software, enter your password and can then read/write to it.

I think there was a program that you could install on your thumb drive.
If you had it plugged in, it unlocked files, etc. Once you pulled it out, it locked everything.

TrueCrypt also does that :)

That looks promising.
I think I'm going to pick up a new USB hub from Walmart or somewhere.
Saw it in Walmart but didn't buy it.
It's a 4 port USB hub that allows 2 computers to hook up to it.
Then there's a switch on top of each port that allows you to change from one PC to the other.

I've used something before that did encryption.
Tried it on a folder and then was looking for something else.
Unistalled the other program before uncrypting the data. Re-installed the program after I realized that I didn't unincrypt it. Put in the same password but wouldn't decrypty the files, so they were lost.

I think that just enables you to encrypt files on your thumb drive.
I just had a quick read through it, but will read it fully when I get back from work.

It encrypts + basically hides them. Here, let me show you how my TrueCrypt file works (the thing I posted above automates the mounting process and just skips straight to the password).

Image

1. Choose file to mount (mine is a single 1GB file in My Documents, unreadable by anyone as it is - it just looks like a 1GB file).

2. Enter the volume password.

3. If the right password was entered I can now browse it as any normal drive (I mounted it as drive T).

I think you'll have to enter a password before you can uninstall.
