He didn't really have a ridiculous kill figure, he just had a reasonable one. Most school shootings have ridiculously low kill figures which I believe are a result of the fact that most lonely nerds who are fucking crazy and start shooing up their school can't hit the broad side of a barn, let alone a fleeing human. A human being who is running isn't so easy to hit that everyone can pull it off.

That's why the best thing to do if a gangsta pulls a gun on you is to charge him.

perhaps so, but statistically speaking, this was definitely a major outlier. And from what I understand, the columbine kids did have decent aim (they had fps training!).

I'd really like to know exactly what happened that morning. It may just boil down to the geometry of the building layout, or maybe some mass apathy overtook the students which allowed the killer the freedom to move around at will and reload when necessary.

ah just saw this now. If that's the case, then it makes sense. They were probably paralyzed with fear and allowed him to just execute them one by one. Nobody wanted to risk taking one for the team and charging him. Game theory paradoxes can be frustrating at times...

I wonder if he did anything to engender this cooperation. Maybe it was something in his eyes, or his voice, or body language.

From what I'm reading it sounds like he'd step out into the hall to reload and then reenter the classrooms. He was shooting people multiple times as well.

and he had a "large capacity ammunition feeding device," which "means a magazine... that has a capacity of, or that can be readily restored or converted to accept, more than 10 rounds of ammunition..."

seriously the more i think about it... THIRTY TWO FUCKING KILLS

ALONE

in a building full of other adult humans.

with two pistols

This is fucking remarkable - i mean from a purely tactical point of view - even trained terrorists with machine guns don't rack up this sort of damage in crowded arenas on a solo basis.

it seems that your version of reality is more like a video game or action movie. In real life it's not that easy to actually kill more than a few people.

You hear about all these incidents where terrorists charge into a crowded market place, or mosque, or whatever, and open fire WITH MACHINE GUNS, and you still don't get these sorts of figures. And those are usually multiple assailants.

Show me any other time in recorded history where a lone gunman has killed that many people.

holy shit:
Derek O'Dell, a 20-year-old sophomore majoring in biological sciences, said the gunman entered his classroom and opened fire without saying a word. O'Dell said most of the approximately 20 students in the class were hit. A bullet struck him in the right arm.
Sounds like this dude was completely calm...

In a situation like this, even 3 to 5 people could rush at him, and beat him to death with ease. The problem is, no one wants to get shot and fucking die, and thus no one does it cause they are too scared. I'm sure a lot of people would like to say they could save the day in that situation, but when your life is on the line, primal instincts take over, and primal instincts say run as fast as possible in the opposite direction. It's too bad he took his own life. I would have liked it better if some dude stole his gun and shot him a buncha times or something.

More guns on campus then? Maybe gun turrets in the halls? Emergency tasers in the classroom?

something tells me that as long as unhappy and unstable people continue to emerge, incidents like these are gonna be with us for a long time to come.

So long as you have the will to kill, the tools to do it, and think it through carefully, you can do some pretty awful shit.

School shootings have become part of the collective consciousness of western society, and are thus a natural outlet for sexually frustrated and unhappy kids.

i think that a lot of suffering can be reduced if students are taught how to deal with these sorts of situations.

i.e. if you see an opportunity to charge, then charge collectively.

would be interesting if the killer had rigged up a live video feed or something...

would be fucking disturbing to watch, but at least we'd have many questions answered.

the thing i lolled at when i heard this was that the American media described him as a "South Korean". This man is twenty-three. Hes been living in America since 1992, therefore having lived 15 years of his life in America. Does this not make him an "American" by convention? Is America that anal to NOT have the balls to pin this on an American American and call him an American?
