but if thats the only reason for NOT to start a clan, then the clan soon is started ^^ but do we have to go to a page and confirm it or what? :)

there's no option in the game to start your own clan. however, starting a clan is like a verbal agreement. just think of a name and an appropriate tag, and make all your members use that tag (by adding it in front of their name).

no you don't have to confirm it... but the bigger... more widely accepted clans usually have a website of their own. Just change your names so the clan tag is in it and that's it...

I've never been in a clan that had a website. A clan needs servers that are always running. You hook up on your servers...at whatever time. It's hard to find a bunch of people that have matching schedules. The last clan I was in, each one of us had at least 700-2000 miles between us..we weren't neighbors.

You just play against each-other on your clans servers to begin with...training of a sort. Once you get to know other people that play on your server that are in different clans you slowly make friends with those clans.......and at the same time you'll naturally gain clans that don't like your clan...and some wars start. That sounds fun to begin with, but sometimes the clans that are against yours can cause even more problems than what you can expect. My clan had another clan which figured out ways to give virus's to some of our admin's for example.

Everyone that's been in a good clan has many stories that they rack up over time with clan wars.

If you want a clan that is known of, you have to put the time in before it becomes known of. A computer site, or registering a clan is really unknown of for the most part.

you don't need your own server. blah blah blah. just hang out, talk smack, and have a good time. clan = success.

..and then there's the passive players like him. Bounce from this server to that server...and they talk alot of blah, blah, blah...like he pointed out. :icon29:

heh...um, you say one thing and mean another apparently. Must not be fun now.

Ok...Norwegian Lucifer this is example one, of things that can lead to clan wars. Someone says one thing to another, and someone gets pissed off...and it spreads from one player to another until everyone starts to get ticked off at this or that player. Then everyone goes through a dominant drive that makes them wanna out-frag the other. Competition begins...who wins? So on, and so forth. It's a great game :icon25:

the Slashquit.net guys host over 15 servers for Quake 3. The people there are close and theres over 20 clans organised over that site, hell, im in 3 of them. A clan doesnt necessarily need a website or a running server of their own, a community to get involved with is ok.

I didn't say that there aren't any clans that use sites...I said that the good part of clans don't use a site. 20 Clans is a tiny number in considering the total amount of clans that have existed. I do agree with you that it is good to find a community to get involved with. I just never used sites to do that.

My first three years of playing this game, I never even had looked at Quake3World...Planetquake, etc. I downloaded all of my mods, by joining a server..and downloaded the mod. I started Osp(along with many other mods) like that.....played the same old maps over and over...and never knew where or who made the mod..didn't really care. Not until I had enough clan members hound me about this site or that site...did I finally look. I just played the game. Which is why I didn't start using this site till 2003...

Minded, every players different...

if your clan doesnt have a website it maybe hard to join Clanbase etc without one and forums are better to communicate and good for info to help members rather than doing it all on server or msn etc plus chatting too much on servers can be annoying when all you wanna do is frag =) and also when your starting your clan make sure you recruit players with good attitudes not just good frags per minute ;)

good luck with all :icon31:

theres 63 Q3 clans just on SQ alone. Only maybe 3 of them would have a site. The biggest spoon around would be Nesreca, their site is guarenteed to be the best way to host your clans progress.

ive played this game since it came out, have you seen my join date here? :olo:

After busetibi over there steered me to SQ i instantly stopped doing what youve described yourself doing. That community is awesome. The forum or IRC channels are easily the best way to get your name or your clans name out there in the community youre with. Especially if the community also hosts servers ;)

I guess thought that since SQ is an Australian site, and practically the ONLY Q3 Australian site left, ALL Australian quakers congregate there.

Hope ive helped :)
