my personal favourite dimmu album is puritanical euphoric misanthropia, simply for the two songs puritania and sympozium. Death Cult Armageddon is quite good too. As is Enthrone Darkness Triumphant, which is a bit earlier. I don't really enjoy their really early stuff, pure black metal tires me, i like the melodies in the later stuff.

as for other bands I suggest getting a dimmu album first and working from there, they're the most mainstream and accessible.

I also suggest you aquire a Finntroll album, simply because they're so fucking awesome. Nattfodd is pure gold.
