which application opens shortcuts?

I've accidentally assigned some random application to open shortcuts, now every time I open a shortcut, that application runs. I need to reassign the original application to open the shortcut files, otherwise everything is fucking up real bad. Help please!

Explorer - Tools - Folder Options - File Associations

Look for the file type that is giving you trouble and either delete the association or modify it (if you delete it, it should come back next time you open the right file with it)

the .LNK extension isn't in that list.

That fix didn't work, I've found some others, but none worked, so I just formatted. It was a fresh install anyway, no big deal.
