i started on the DC too (2 months), but i'm telling you, the k/b mouse combo is the only way to go.

Its like this... with a mouse you can make 1 movement as fast as your hand will allow you, and you'll have your target right in your sights. With a joystick, you have to move the joystick for a desired speed, then wait for that speed to carry your cursor to the point you want it to be at.

In other words, a joystick inherently reduces your responsiveness by adding extra steps to targeting. Dreamcast users got horribly and hilariously raped by PC players for 2 clear reasons: The PC players were more experienced and the PC players all used KB/Mouse where relatively few DC players used the same.

I know it probably looks like a preference to you, but it isn't. There are definable reasons why a KB and mouse is THE way to go for playing first-person games, and while something better may come along in the future, a joypad or stick ain't it.

We can prolly get your joystick setup going but truthfully, noone ever, ever tries to use a joystick with Q3 because it's like using a light gun to play a racing game when you have a perfectly good wheel... so nobody knows too much about the joystick support in Q3 because noone cares about it much. Best bet will probably be one of the engine coders or an old console gamer who went down a similar path to you.

This is funny because in my eyes it seems what a KB and Mouse lack is movement, not the movement of the mouse but the movement of the actual player....Majority of the population is Right handed, thuse meaning you play with your mouse in the right hand and the kb on the left. With the joystick being on the left and movement focused on the right, your more able to dodge those shots or attacks. Thats the point of the game " Point and shoot'? right? but if you cant get a locked target thats where you have a problem. I truly think if i had about two and half weeks of catching up my skills back to where i used to have them i would have a pretty good chance of taking you. But thanks for trying to get me on a mouse pad.

I have tried going threw the OS (XP) and moving the mouses speed up, basically it does just that. While im in the game i can turn really fast on the D-pad but not the joystick.

I dont understand what "OLO" means?

You are just going to handicap yourself HORRIBLY by starting to play wth a joystick believe me. You are going to play with the joystick for a week and wonder why everyone else is killing you so fast and so accurately then you will start to lean towards admitting that mouse/kbrd is the ultimate fps setup and you will start to train on it one way or another. If you start to use it right now you will save yourself the 1-2 week period where you realize a joystick will not work.

I got Quake IV for Xbox last week (was like 5 bucks) and played online for a little bit (got my gold trial still). Needless to say the 100 or so people playing it (suprised there are that many tbh) where medicore at best. Even though I suck playing fps with a joystick I could handle my own and quickly noticed that 90% of the players suck horribly. People that would get destroyed very easily have they played the game on PC (and even worse if they kept their joysticks). It was kinda fun but I don't see myself playing it beyond the free trial period.

someone just post an ip and crush this guy so he sees how wrong he is.

honestly. the game is 8 years old (not to mention Q1 and Q2) and there have been hundreds of thousands of dollars in prize money awarded at tourneys. if the fucking gamepad were better (or even could compete) wouldn't SOMEONE have figured that out before this genius?

Stick with it...it takes a little while to get used to it, but you'll gradually become better and start to get the hang of it...ownage awaits.

Yes, you write them in the console (the ~ key)
